Charleen Elliot in her own words

I bring a lifetime of overcoming personal challenges and 20 years of experience of managing rehabilitation projects, community engagement, representative development, coaching and designing and delivering workshops in all aspects of recovery and personal development for a specialist mental health charity. In 2017 I travelled to Brazil to study Spiritual emergence and emergency in their incredibly inspiring Alternative Psychiatric hospitals, these are run by volunteers and use crystals, blessed water, Rieki and nature for example rather than medication.

I discovered what people really need is people. My offering is unique and tapping directly into my skills and passions. I am blessed with a huge network of healers and run a free fortnightly recovery group in Bethnal Green called The Peoples Portal maximising access to all healing modalities to people that really need it. My personal journey into alternative therapies has inspired a dream of co-creating a new paradigm of health.
Community breakdown is the biggest factor in social dis-ease and I believe between us we have the skills and resources to heal each other. Anyone can also join our collective. As individuals we already possess everything we need and when we combine efforts magic can and does happen. We are all miracles here for a reason. We are all capable of achieving our purpose and dreams if we dedicate to our truth, self love and commitment to the ongoing journey.

JJ Rawlings Dead, He was not my hero

Interesting seeing the tributes to JJ Rawlings who died on the 12th November 2020. I wonder about his lasting legacy. I have a biased view of his reign and find it hard to forget the pain of his coups and direction he sent Ghana in. I remember he and his soldiers  blamed Ghana's powerful market women for the country's wows and so they flogged market women in public, killed judges, locked up and tortured journalists, and shot politicians. I was about 9 when Rawlings and his band of not so merry men took over Ghana. I don't know if Ghana was in a bad way, I was a child, but  remember that my life changed after the 1979 coup and was never the same again. My parents had lived in the UK for 10 years as was their plan and they returned home to Ghana in 1976. I was 6 years old. I loved my new home Ghana, I went to a private school and my dad worked for the timber marketing board.  We ate breakfast and supper at the dinning table, had a house boy who swept the house and an...

PRIDE IN LONDON OFFICIAL APOLOGY

Pride in London NEW OFFICAL STATEMENT We Pride in London are prepared to acknowledge that after 500 years of worldwide imperialism & capitalist based on inequality and division created by white organisations. It is likely that we have behaved in racist and unequal ways towards POC. We are in contact with Dr Robin DiAngelo the author of 'White Fragility' and Jane Elliot to help us to understand where and how our racism rises and most importantly what we can do about it. We also acknowledge that as an institution that has not been able to listen to black and POC who have been in the organisation for many years it is best that we get white people to teach us where we have gone wrong as we are unlikely to be able to handle news of our racist behaviour from POC. We are now ready to start a full 3 month in-depth anti racism course and really look forward to being the first British institution to admit to racism and did the work required to stamp it out. We apologise...

Why Im No Longer Dancing with Racism

This story begun after the George Floyd killing. Prior to that day Id been enjoying the global retreat, working on my Chakras by grounding, affirmations and meditating like a monk. Why? Because my brother is a healer who realigns Chakras which helps to rewire your brain. We as siblings had been using the time to do some concentrated inner work. According to my brother's gifts black women can have a more stagnant root chakra, so i was determined to get mine aligned and in good working order, after all if the foundations are not good then the rest of the building is not safe. At the same time i had noticed that for the first 3 to 4 weeks into the global retreat there had been no racism stories in the press, this coupled with the restrictions in work and travel brought an even more welcome relief from racism. My friends and family discussed in happy tones the sense of relief to be in this new reality. Do you remember that at the start of the COVID story, they said that bl...
